Instead of trying to squeeze everything in around packing, removals, keys and moving day, tell us what needs to go and we’ll build the clearing around your move.

Every move is different. You might just need us to take care of a few unwanted items after the removal van leaves, or you may want more help getting both properties ready.

Your Home Move Preparation plan can include any combination of:

Pre-move decluttering – clear unwanted items before you start packing or as you work through the house.
Final move-out clearance – leave agreed unwanted items behind for us to remove once your belongings have been moved.
New home preparation – clear unwanted items from your new property before your furniture and belongings arrive.
Furniture removal – sofas, beds, wardrobes, tables, drawers and other furniture you don't want to move or keep.
Appliance removal – fridges, freezers, washing machines and other unwanted appliances.
Carpet lifting & removal – have agreed carpets taken up at your old or new property.

Dismantling – selected furniture and other suitable items can be dismantled for removal where required.
Packing bin hire – have a 240L or 1100L wheelie bin available while you're sorting and packing.
Removal company liaison – where useful, we can speak with your removal company beforehand to help plan our work around their expected timings.
Completion photos – if you've already left the property, we can send photos and paperwork electronically once the agreed work is finished.

And if both properties are within our service area, we can build your Home Move Preparation plan around both homes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do with unwanted furniture when moving house?

If you already know you don't want to keep certain furniture, you don't necessarily need to pay your removal company to transport it to your new home.

RJT can arrange to remove unwanted sofas, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, tables and other furniture as part of your Home Move Preparation Service. Depending on your moving plan, this can be arranged before moving day or after your removal company has finished.

Can you clear my old home after the removal company leaves?

Yes. This is one of the main ways our Home Move Preparation Service can be used.

Your removal company can take everything you're keeping, leaving behind the items you've already agreed for RJT to remove. We can then carry out the planned clearance so you can concentrate on getting settled into your new home.

Do I have to be there when you clear my old property?

Not necessarily.

If we've agreed exactly what needs doing and suitable access can be arranged, we may be able to complete the work after you've left. We can then send you completion photos so you can see that the agreed work has been carried out.

We'll discuss access arrangements with you before your move.

Can you prepare my new home before I move in?

Yes. Home Move Preparation isn't just for the property you're leaving.

If you have access to your new home before your belongings arrive, we can remove agreed unwanted furniture, appliances, rubbish, carpets and other items so there's less to deal with when you start moving in.

Can you help with both my old home and my new home?

Yes.

If both properties are within an area we can service and the timings work, we can include work at both addresses within your Home Move Preparation plan.

If only one of the properties is within our service area, we may still be able to help with that part of your move. For example, you could be moving from Brighton to another part of the country and use RJT to take care of the property you're leaving behind.

Can I hire a wheelie bin while I'm packing?

Yes. You can add a 240L or 1100L wheelie bin to your Home Move Preparation Service.

Having a bin available while you sort cupboards, drawers and storage areas gives you somewhere to put suitable smaller waste as you pack, helping reduce piles of bags and unnecessary trips to the tip.

We'll explain what can and can't be placed in the bin when arranging your hire.

What happens if I have more rubbish than expected?

Moving often uncovers more unwanted items than people initially expect, so don't worry if things change while you're packing.

Let us know as soon as possible and, where possible, send updated photos or videos. We can then update the planned collection and let you know about any difference in price before the work takes place.

Items or waste substantially beyond the amount originally agreed may be subject to an additional charge and available vehicle capacity.

How far in advance should I book Home Move Preparation?

We recommend contacting us as soon as you know your likely moving date, particularly if you'd like several parts of the service or work carried out at both properties.

Don't worry if your completion or moving date isn't completely confirmed yet. We can discuss what you're likely to need and finalise arrangements once your date is known.

Short-notice enquiries are also welcome and we'll always let you know what we're able to accommodate.

What happens if my moving date changes?

We understand that moving dates can change, particularly when you're waiting for contracts, completion dates or other parts of a property chain.

Contact us as soon as you know your plans have changed and we'll work with you to rearrange the booked services wherever availability allows.

What types of waste and unwanted items can RJT remove?

We can remove a wide range of household items and waste, including furniture, mattresses, appliances, electrical items, bagged household waste, garden waste and contents from garages, sheds, lofts and other storage areas.

We can also deal with a number of items that require separate handling or disposal.

If you're unsure about something, send us a photo when requesting your quote and we'll confirm whether we're able to take it.

Will I receive paperwork for the waste you remove?

Yes. RJT Waste Solutions is a licensed waste carrier and any required waste documentation is handled by us.

Where applicable, paperwork can be provided electronically alongside your completion information.

How much does Home Move Preparation cost?

There isn't one fixed price because every move is different.

You choose which parts of the service you need, and your quote will be based on the work required, the amount and type of waste being removed, disposal costs, access, labour and the locations involved.

This means you aren't paying for a large fixed package containing services you don't need.
